“When I was first starting, it went from calibrations to construction, to commissioning and all sorts of different things. You’re getting your hands on stuff that you wouldn’t have dreamt of getting your hands on before. You think you’re just going to go bend tubing and, all of a sudden, guys are giving you a chance to work on different stuff because everybody wants you to learn.”

Josh Rosario has been with Epscan since 2011. He initially went to art school and lived in Vancouver but realized he wanted to change careers and possibly move. His wife, who grew up in Fort St. John, proposed they relocate to her hometown, a place Josh had never heard of before. After considering the change, they decided to make the move.
Upon arriving, Josh’s brother-in-law, a former Epscan employee, suggested he apply for a job at the company. To Josh’s surprise, he received a call from Dustin Stirling the very same night, offering him a job starting the next day.
“Dustin called me and said, ‘You want a job tomorrow?’ I was like, ‘Sure,’ and that’s how it all started.”
– Josh Rosario, Maintenance Coordinator
With no prior experience in trades and only basic technical skills, Josh dove headfirst into the role. Although he initially didn’t know much about instrumentation mechanics, he learned quickly by taking on a variety of tasks.
“Every day is an opportunity to improve. Whether you’re just starting out or have years of experience, Epscan’s commitment to training never stops.”
– Josh Rosario, Maintenance Coordinator
After building a solid foundation in the trades, Josh’s path evolved. He explored new areas, particularly in software engineering, where he started creating tools to make certain aspects of the job easier for his team.
“I’ve worked at a lot of places, but Epscan stands out because they care about helping you build a long-term career, not just a job.”
– Josh Rosario, Maintenance Coordinator
This shift marked a key moment in his career, as he transitioned from focusing solely on trades work to developing solutions that would enhance the company’s operational efficiency.
“How do I build stuff that can make other parts of our job easier? I’ve built several tools for the company now, and that has been a lot of fun.”
– Josh Rosario, Maintenance Coordinator
Norton Hunt started with Epscan while still in high school as part of a work experience program. He was required to complete around 30 hours of work to graduate, and with an interest in trades, he applied to three local companies. Epscan was the one that accepted him for the program. He also found his footing through the company’s supportive environment.
“I didn’t know much going in, but even in those 30 hours, I learned a lot—it was night and day from where I started.”
– Norton Hunt, Former Maintenance Coordinator
When his work experience ended, Norton asked if there was a place for him at Epscan. While he was still in high school, he continued part-time and joined full-time once he graduated.
“When my work experience was ending, I asked Don [Stirling] if there was a place for me at the company. He was patient and always encouraging, and I ended up staying on.”
– Norton Hunt, Former Maintenance Coordinator
Over time, training and a supportive culture, Norton not only grew in his technical skills but also moved into a leadership role. He credits the company’s strong emphasis on support and guidance for helping him advance in his career.
“When I first started, I didn’t know much about the industry, but the support and mentorship at Epscan helped me grow into a leadership role.”
– Norton Hunt, Former Maintenance Coordinator

“It’s really easy to go to work when you’re dealing with a bunch of guys that know what they’re doing and they want to do a good job. That’s kind of the culture that Epscan have been pounding into us since we started. ‘Don’t settle for 80%. Let’s give 100%. Let’s not risk our reputation.’ And everybody’s on board with that.”
